From childhood passion to dedicated teacher
My love for music began early, at just 9 years old, when I joined my school band as a trombone player. That journey continued through high school, but it was the guitar that truly captured my heart. I found immense joy in showing friends how simple it could be to play a new riff, or how accessible musical instruments truly are. After high school, my path was clear: I wanted to teach and play music for a living. This lifelong dedication to music now fuels every lesson at Fret Line Studies w/ Ivan, located right here in Bakersfield, California.
Our unique approach: learning made engaging
My teaching philosophy at Fret Line Studies is all about making learning effective, engaging, and fun. I use creative acronyms to help students with note memorization, making complex ideas easy to grasp. Solfege is incorporated for pitch training, developing a strong ear alongside technical skills. Most importantly, I believe in positive reinforcement to build confidence, encouraging every student to believe in their own musical abilities. This combination of practical tools and encouragement creates a unique and supportive learning environment for all my students, whether you're interested in guitar or bass lessons.
Student Guidance
While I enjoy working with all kinds of students, I typically teach ages 7 and older. For guitar, I guide students from beginner to intermediate levels, helping them build a strong foundation. For bass, I teach students from beginner all the way to advanced, helping them master the instrument. My students often come to me with goals like learning to jam with others, understanding music theory, and becoming proficient in reading music. Whatever your musical aspiration, I'm here to help you achieve it with personalized lessons right here in Bakersfield, California.
